Mosquitoes Control

Mosquitoes

Mosquitos are extremely annoying and potentially dangerous insects, especially during the summer. They are more active early in the morning and in the afternoon but in shadowy and damp places they can be active all day long.

Mosquitos belong in the family Culicidae. The genes that concern us most are Aedes spp, Culex spp and anopheles spp.

They can carry diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, west nile virus, Chikungunya, etc. Therefore we should protect ourselves from their bites and try to reduce their population around us as much as possible.

In order to protect yourself from mosquito bites you can use insect repellents and wear long sleeve pants and shirts. Using screens on windows and doors helps keeping mosquitos as well as many other insects out of our house. Air conditioning and fans also help in keeping mosquito away from our bodies. In our yard and garden you should avoid keeping water-holding containers because stagnant water is where mosquito larvae thrive. Plants and grass should be watered in the morning. Lawn should be mowed regularly and hedges should be trimmed strictly.

Many times and despite taking all the appropriate preventative measures mosquito populations remain high. Household use mosquito sprays and “recipes” for diy repellents often produce inadequate results. Hiring a professional pest control company such as is the best way to achieve an effective and long lasting reduction in mosquito numbers. We use approved and efficient pesticides and apply IPM strategies which are harmful to humans, pets and plants. Pesticides are applied by electric and gasoline sprayers. Many times the use of cold or hot fogging is preferred. Eliminating all mosquitos is almost impossible. The goal is to keep their population in tolerable levels. In most cases that can be achieved by monthly treatments from May to September.
