Other Insects - Pests

Hundreds of species of pests often bother us in and out of our homes. Insects, mites, myriads often require special and specialized handling to get rid of them quickly and safely. Accurate identification of the parasite and proper assessment of the extent of the problem are very important factors for a successful treatment. 

Some common parasites are:

CENTIPEDES

Centipedes have a long and flexible body. Their color is brown – maroon. They have four eyes and two small antennas. Centipedes live under rocks and inside cracks and they feed on insects and larvae. Their bite is quite painful.

SILVERFISH

Silverfish are about 1cm long and their color is brownish. They prefer dark places, under carpets, inside furniture cracks and libraries. They feed on glue, fabric fibers and starchy products.

EUROPEAN EARWIG (Dermaptera, Forficulidae)

Earwigs are 1 – 2cm long and brown in color. Though they aren’t considered dangerous, their sting can be quite irritating.

DUST MITES

Dust mites are microscopic arthropods which can’t be seen with the naked eye. They prefer hot and moist places such as mattresses and carpets. High dust mite populations can cause skin problems and allergic reactions.
